Originally from Yorkshire, Brian has been involved with some of the pioneering organisations in the UK and French electronics industries in the 1950s and 1960s. Brian formed Marl in 1972 and has been Chairman since that time. Brian has always been a passionate supporter of UK manufacturing and believes in designing and manufacturing high quality precision engineered components and products. His particular areas of expertise are in materials and metrology.

Brian's range of interests cross from the scientific into the artistic and he is a keen supporter of the arts and a qualified Acupuncturist. He has arranged many piano concerts with the world's leading pianist in aid of a host of local and national charities.

Born in Malmesbury, Wiltshire in 1956 and moved to Cumbria in the early 1970s, before leaving the area to undertake business studies and then returning to join Marl in 1977.

Held a combination of director and senior management positions in aerospace and opto-electronic companies for 27 years, of which most of the time has been devoted to the sustained growth of Marl International Limited.

Main positions held at Marl have included Sales Director, Marketing Director and more recently Managing Director.

Special interests include strategic and creative marketing and segmentation analysis.

David John Ford, Commercial Director and General Manager, has been employed by Marl since 1991, initially as Financial Controller.

Background - proceeding 22 years with a manufacturing control relay engineering company in Ulverston.

Re-located to Ulverston in 1969 from the fair city of Manchester where gainfully employed by a firm of Chartered Accountants.

Joined Marl International Limited in 1989 on a Production Engineering apprenticeship and spent four years being trained on manufacturing techniques, productivity studies and MRP systems. Held several management positions within the company in both the Sales and Manufacturing spheres and enjoyed the challenge of managing day to day issues whilst being involved in the majority of key projects that the Company has discharged in the last ten years.

Appointed as a Director in February 2005. Today he has responsibility for Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing. The challenges to be met now are to manage the on-going transformation of Marl from being a component supplier to Industry into a solutions provider in new market areas.
