"It's a really proud moment to say that our core product range have the lifetime expectancy of my full life!"
In 2015, Marl received a repeat order for a panel lamp product – 28 years after the original panel lamp was fitted.
The "53 Series", designed and manufactured for the first time in 1985, was ordered by an engineering customer in 1987 – interestingly, just 3 days before our Marketing Manager, Arianna, was born! Then, in February 2015, Marl received a call to replace the product which had been going strong for almost 3 decades.
Arianna, who has just celebrated her 28th birthday, was thrilled by the news. "Naturally, having worked with the company for 6 years I know the history of Marl International and that we have been around long time…but I was amazed and impressed to find out on my 28th birthday, this February, that one of our customers whom originally bought a panel lamp from us when I was born, placed a repeat order of the product exactly the same time 28 years later! It's a really proud moment to say that our core product range have the lifetime expectancy of my full life!"
The 53 Series was an indicator manufactured using a moulded body made of plastic. Today, the part is no longer available due to the advance in technology moving to metal bodied panel lamps in the late 1980's. Designed for military applications, metal panel lamps (MPL's) were designed to have a high level of sealing and robustness that plastic options could not offer.
The alternative offered to replace the 53 Series was the 677 Series MPL. The product has the same sized mounting hole but as expected, has significant differences such as a higher IP rating and a brighter LED.
Karl continues, "Generally, MPLs offer higher IP ratings and levels of robustness, however as the original product survived 28 years in panel it was obviously up to the job!"
