Gillian McGarry

Meet Gillian McGarry, Commercial Account Leader, who works closely with Head of Distribution; Graham Round, and as part of the wider team.

Gill is a devoted member of the Marl team, joining the Marketing Department upon leaving school. Gill's Mum worked in the Accounts Department at Marl whilst Gill was at school, and Gill joined her in the summer holidays assisting with general office duties. After leaving school Gill was approached to attend an interview, and has been here ever since!

Gill has worn many hats during her 28 year career at Marl; after starting in Marketing she transferred to Sales Order Processing, and onto Account Manager for North America. From then on Gill has worked consistently within the Sales Department; and currently works with North America, UK Defence, and rest of world sales.

When Gill is away from the office she likes to keep fit and spend time with her family. One of her family hobbies is fishing; back in the summer Gill caught a 12lb carp!

We asked Gill about her time at Marl:

"I have undertaken many roles during my time at Marl; mainly in Sales but have also worked closely with the Marl Directors as a PA.
One of my main roles was Account Manager for North America, where I worked alongside Graham Round to look after Distributors, Agents, and direct customers across America, as well as organising and booking US trips for Graham. This then expanded to me supporting the Defence sector in the UK also. After that, I looked after new projects that came into Marl and became Project Manager, before moving into my current role.
I enjoy building relationships with current and new customers, and assisting them with specific requirements."

We asked Gill to describe her typical working day:

"I wouldn't say I have a typical working day, no day is the same as the previous. I start by checking my emails and prioritising my workload to enable me to respond to customer requirements in an efficient and organised manner, then begin my busy day!
Due to my role looking after the sale of Marl products in the UK Manufacturing side of the business, excluding rail, as well as North America and the ROW, my daily functions are ever-changing. This makes my job very interesting, varies my abilities, and tests me at times.
I'm proud to have worked at Marl for nearly 30 years, and look forward to continuing my Marl career."
