Matt Davidson, Goods In and Despatch Assistant, has done a lot in a relatively short space of time here at Marl. Joining Marl as a Production Operative in 2013 Matt worked in Production, SMT, and as part of the "Specials" team. In early 2016 Matt temporarily joined the Sales team, allowing him time to learn the computer systems and procedures, before taking up a role later in the year in Goods In and training in Despatch.
Whilst Matt is a dedicated and hard-working team member, he is also a talented multi-instrumental musician, having played guitar, bass, drums and/or vocals in several metal bands, even recently releasing an album worldwide and doing a short tour of California in the Summer!
We asked Matt to tell us about his role here at Marl:
Name: Matt Davidson
Hobbies: Music, I love spending time with my fiancée, travelling, 80s Horror movies, cooking and reading.
Time at Marl: 4 years
Speciality: I like to think that my strength is in the meticulous categorisation of each component that arrives
Prior to joining Marl I had worked in some factories in Ulverston, after meeting Marl at a Jobs Fair at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston I was invited for interview and offered the job, and I've been here since, finding Marl a good place to build my skills.
A typical day would start with opening all the Despatch doors and printing off the Despatch list for the Supervisors. After studying the list for any parts that may need preparing (as I deal with some of the kitting, particularly the Distribution side), I begin to receive the first deliveries of the day. Following an examination of the contents of each parcel (often requiring further investigation by Quality, etc.), I book everything in, barcoding them correctly, then either placing them in Stores or allocating them to an upcoming order ready to be despatched. On the days where there are fewer deliveries, I help out in Despatch or Production.
One of my biggest achievements at Marl came about a month ago, there was an audit on the Goods In area that resulted in a very positive reaction. The auditors were impressed by my knowledge of the procedures and practices as well as the Health and Safety risks discussed, a proud moment for me at Marl.
