What do you do at MARL?

I work predominantly in speciality lighting . My role involves working on bespoke projects including our Surface Mount Centre and our design capabilities. These cover a range of applications from Film & Broadcast, Architectural, Industrial, Medical and Scientific Lighting. I also sell components such as our Yuji Flexistrip, various discrete LEDs, lenses, drivers and more, and enjoy helping people find what they need for a project.

How long have you worked at MARL?

11 years.

 

What’s your specialty?

I specialise in the Yuji range, for which we are the exclusive UK distributor. I also work with the Design team to see through bespoke Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs.

 

What’s the best thing about working at MARL?

The variety. No two days are the same and there's always an exciting new project to get stuck into.

 

Outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Baking, cooking, anything crafty such as sewing, painting and upcycling furniture. I also love going to the theatre to watch musicals as well as travelling when I can.

 

What’s your favourite song?

Mr Brightside by The Killers.

 

What’s your favourite TV Show or movie?

Of all time? TV Show: Friends, Movie: Fried Green Tomatoes.

 

What’s a little known secret you’re willing to reveal?

In 2013 I won the amateur category of the Lakeland Cake of the Year Competition, and when I was 14 I competed in the World Orienteering Championships.

Oleg Losev was a self-taught Russian scientist who experimented with semiconductor materials and was fascinated with their light emission properties. He allegedly wrote to Einstein to explain his exciting research findings, but without reply and died during the siege of Leningrad in 1942
