What do you do at MARL?

I oversee project work and day-to-day design and CAD engineering related operations. I also liaise with other MARL departments and manage the workloads and responsibilities of the design engineers for both MARL and customer-specific projects, ensuring all activities are carried out on time and within budget.

How long have you worked at MARL?

15 years.

 

What’s your specialty?

I graduated with an Electronics Degree from university; however, I do have a general engineering background through college and early university years and am involved in both mechanical and electronic design work at MARL on PCB and CAD software. I enjoy the challenge of converting a customer's requirement into the most optimal solution with the best selection of housing, LEDs, PCB, drivers, thermal management and optics into the total package.

 

What’s the best thing about working at MARL?

The family atmosphere, with friendly and helpful colleagues. There is interesting and varied project work across diverse industries, and big variation in work and design opportunities. I enjoy the challenge of designing energy efficient and reliable LED lighting solutions, as well as the ability to see projects through from concept to production.

 

Outside of work, what do you do for fun?

I love Formula 1, watching documentaries about history, sports, engineering and space, as well as relaxing in the back garden on a sunny day.

 

What’s your favourite song?

I don’t have a favourite song in particular, but Fleetwood Mac’s " Gypsy" is a good one.

 

What’s your favourite TV Show or movie?

24.

 

What’s a little known secret you’re willing to reveal?

I got a black belt in karate when I was 18.
