Recently we discussed Value Added Manufacturing, a core concept of MARL’s manufacturing, adding value to a humble LED to create a more sophisticated product.
A great example of this is the 255 Series: part of a range of indicator bulb replacements designed as retrofit for instrument panels and illuminated switches in military, transportation and industrial applications.
The 255 Series was one of the first to feature what we dubbed “SOLO Technology”, for Stock One LED Only, in the 2000s. Rather than needing to stock a range of replacements at different voltages and polarities, this allows customers to simplify their stock by utilising internal current regulation and bridge rectification, allowing the bulb to operate at 8-48V, in AC or in any polarity of DC, with consistent brightness.
Because we have added this feature to the 255 Series, this T3¼ BA9s based bulb replacement only needs spare stock of one LED per colour to cover this wide range of voltage configurations. Customers also frequently choose to use Warm White behind a coloured lens (just as a standard filament bulb would’ve been), further simplifying stock to truly just the one.
Proving useful and reliable, this technology is still in use today and has also made its way into the 240 Series (alongside a higher voltage 48-130V version), 253 and 258 Series, with others possible as a semi-custom or custom design upon requirement.
