In time for the inaugural Light Up Hoad event that was held on Saturday 30th March, MARL has upgraded the lighting at the local Sir John Barrow Monument (known colloquially as “The Hoad” after its location on Hoad Hill) in Ulverston.  The upgrade significantly improves the brightness of light cast onto the monument and the purity of its white setting, as well as creating new colour mixing possibilities.

The Light Up Hoad event is a new festival created by Up Hoad CIC in collaboration with a number of partner organisations, including Ford Park Community Group, Ulverston Inshore Rescue, Ulverston Resilience Group, Ulverston BID and Ulverston Town Council.  Ulverston BID was the main sponsor for the event and MARL was pleased to sponsor the lighting.

At the event, hundreds of people zig-zagged the path up Hoad Hill to the monument, children carrying a free LED light stick, putting their lights out momentarily when the monument lighting was switched to red at 8pm.  After a countdown, the monument was switched to green and all lights illuminated to cheers and applause followed by a “river of light” as the people worked their way back down the hill.
